Body outlining using Tc-99m filled flood source for lymphoscintigraphy imaging
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: In the current study, we evaluated the feasibility of body outlining using Tc-99m filled flood source for lymphoscintigraphy imaging. Methods: 80 patients were included in the study. Sentinel node mapping was done using Tc-99m Antimony sulfide colloid. For outlining the body a Tc-99m filled flood source was used which was placed behind or lateral to the patients for Anterior and lateral images respectively. The flood source was filled with 0.5 mCi, 1 mCi, 2 mCi, and 5 mCi for 10, 47, 10, and 3 patients respectively. The quality of outline images was assessed by two nuclear medicine specialists independently. Radiation exposure to the patients was also evaluated using thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD-100). Results: The quality of body contour images were good in images taken by 1, 2, and 5 mCi filled flood source. However the quality of images was poor in 8 out of 10 lymphoscintigraphies taken by 0.5 mCi filled flood source. The measured dose rate from the Tc-99m flood source was 1.07 ± 0.04 µSv/MBq/hr (39 ± 1.5 µSv/mCi/hr) or 3.25 µSv for 5 min acquisition times. Conclusion: Body outlining is feasible with Tc-99m filled flood source. To assure high quality, at least 1 mCi of Tc-99m pertechnetate should be used for filling the source. This technique can be very useful especially when Co-57 is not available or has decayed. The need to prepare the flood source for each patient and difficulty in handling the source especially for the lateral views are the major limitations.

full textScatterogram: a method for outlining the body during lymphoscintigraphy without using external flood source
BACKGROUND We evaluated the feasibility of outlining the body with scattered photons using a low dose intradermal injection of the radiotracer. PATIENTS AND METHODS.: Sixty breast cancer patients were included into the study. 30 minutes post radiotracer injection static lymphoscintigraphy images were acquired using low energy high resolution collimator in anterior and lateral views. For patien...
full textTransmission Imaging in Lymphoscintigraphy with a 153Gd Flood Source.
UNLABELLED Lymphoscintigraphy uses intradermal or interstitial injections of (99m)Tc-labeled tracers to produce images of focal lymph nodes. Because there is little or no anatomic information in the (99m)Tc images, a (57)Co flood source is sometimes used to provide transmission data along with the emission data. The anatomic shadow from the transmission scan generally improves interpretation an...
full textTc-99m Phytate lymphoscintigraphy: An excellent method for diagnosis of underlying cause of chylous ascites
We reported a 14 months old boy referred for evaluation of chylous ascites to our nuclear medicine department. Tc-99m Phytate was injected subcutaneously in his calves and whole body images as well as abdominal SPECT were performed. The SPECT images could localize an area of several intestinal lymphangiomata in the abdominal region. The abnormal region was surgically resected and the patient as...
full textLymphoscintigraphy is more effective using higher specific activity (99m)Tc-antimony trisulfide colloid in the rat.
Technetium-99m-antimony trisulfide colloid ((99m)Tc-ATC) was investigated with varying specific activity in the rat lymphatic system, as well as its binding to rat blood cells in vitro. Low, moderate and high doses of (99m)Tc-ATC were subdermally injected into tails of rats (n=3) and 30min later whole body lymphoscintigraphic images were acquired. (99m)Tc-ATC was incubated for 30min at 37°C wit...
full textLymphatic mapping and sentinel node biopsy in ovarian tumors: a study using intra-operative Tc-99m-Phytate and lymphoscintigraphy imaging
BACKGROUND Experience on sentinel node mapping in ovarian tumors is very limited. We evaluated the sentinel node concept in ovarian tumors using intra-operativeTc-99m-Phytate injection and lymphoscintigraphy imaging. METHODS Thirty-five patients with a pelvic mass due to an ovarian pathology were included in the study. The radiotracer was injected just after laparotomy and before removal of t...
